Poor little Squirrel
Yesterday we found this poor little squirrel in front of our house. He was lying on the side of the street squeaking and moaning. He looked like he was in a lot of pain. I don't think he could move. So Eileen took him inside our house with a towel and laid him on the counter. We tried to put some water in him, but he didn't respond. We just watched over him and looked for any signs of life.
I got creative and got my stethescope and listened for his heartbeat. I did hear it, which was kind of fun. We were debating whether we should give him Hydrocodone syrup for pain, or Tylenol, or something else, or just let him sleep. Well, he woke up a few times and squeaked and tried to get up. Long story short...at midnight, he passed away. He twitched like crazy and wet himself and then stopped. It really was kind of sad to watch.
Today Eileen buried little squirrel in the backyard. Not a good idea says me, because pepper is going to dig him up. Sure enough, once we went back inside, pepper darted outside and started digging him up. Dang dog! Anyways, that's our little sad story. Little squirrel is in heaven now!

That is sad. We had the same experience with a little baby bird that had been abandoned.
I wanted to leave a epitaph for your new friend. Please see link. Love Eric

Kind of funny that you did that. When I was a kid, our golden retriever got a hold of a baby squirrel that fell out of its nest. It was still alive so we brought it inside and tried to give it water too. all of us kids took shifts to care for it. It too died in the night. It does make you sad.
I sorry, but... I just have a hard time being sympathetic about something so mousie-looking. But you are kind and compassionate people. :)
This is the funnest blog posting ever! Nate and I got a good laugh at this and thought it was halarious that you were thinking of medicating the squirrel. lol If I had a BB gun, I probably would have taken it out of it's misery and shot it. The poor thing died a slow and painful death! Poor squirrel, but he's in a better place now. =)
